Most of the time, the quality of the result does not have to be as high as we perceive it can be, and often the reduced standard being delivered more quickly is often preferred. You need to ensure that you aren’t overcomplicating the problem, if there is only a simple outcome that is required. We also need to consider how our thoughts influence the perceived complexity of a problem. Considering that we prefer to do the task that is the easiest to perform, we can trick ourselves into performing more difficult tasks by making the first step easier to perform. It is possible to use the cognitive ease bias to our advantage, if we are able to identify easier ways to complete an essential task. Essentially, we prefer to take the path of least resistance. Fundamentally, the cognitive ease bias explains our preference for performing tasks that are familiar, easy to understand and easy to perform. There is a significant force that dictates our behaviour in our everyday life, and it is called the cognitive ease bias. It is easy to draw a connection between the difficulty of a task and the expected reward of completing that task, but is this really the case? Or is it more likely that if something is hard, is it because we haven’t found the easier way to do it yet?
